The Western United States experienced a record setting heat wave through Labor Day
weekend. According to NPR, temperatures in Nevada and Utah skyrocketed over 100 degrees
Fahrenheit. Meanwhile, the heatwave pushed the power supply throughout the West to its
maximum as air conditioners work frantically to keep people cool. In California, residents were
warned about possible rolling power outages to relieve some of the stress from the power grid.
The heatwave led to increased reports of heat related illnesses. As heatwaves become more
frequent, as will heat related illnesses. The CDC reports that over there are over 600 deaths in
