As we come into autumn water conditions become more dangerous. Because of decreasing
temperatures and possible snowfall in the mountains at the headwaters of rivers, water
temperatures will drop even while the air temperatures remain high. Under conditions of warm
air temperature and cold-water temperature, there is a higher risk of hypothermia because
swimmers will be slower to perceive dangerous water temperatures. Whether you are going for
a swim in Colorado’s many beautiful lakes and reservoirs or just crossing a river to see fall
foliage, be careful of your surroundings and stay safe!
IX Power Clean Water wants to highlight the dangers of water even in a landlocked state like
Colorado. Drought conditions can bring some of the worst floodings when it does rain. Always
be vigilant around bodies of water as conditions can change at any time. For more information
